People love having pets. A majority of pet lovers would rather have a dog. Dogs are smart and trustworthy and they love and care for us as their owners. In order to really get close to your dog, you have to take great care of his health needs. This process starts with good, quality food.

Our society is driven by supply and demand and no one will pass up an opportunity to make money. Dog food companies are no exception to this rule. There are a lot of different brands of dog food on the market. Commercially prepared dog food can be of questionable quality.

Dog owners would really like to know what makes a quality dog food. Homemade food may be on option. You need to do some comparison shopping before making a decision on the best food for your dog.

You may be under the impression that what is healthy for humans is also healthy for dogs. In reality, this is not true. Dogs need different types of nutrition than humans. Therefore, the quality ingredients needed for your dog's food is not the same as what you need.

You can find recipes for making your own dog food online. There are a lot of websites where you can find good information for recipes that take into account the specific needs of your dog. For example, a younger dog will need more calcium than a full grown dog.

You also need to observe your dog's reactions to the food you feed it. Like humans, dogs have a fully developed sense of taste. They prefer to eat stuff that tastes great to them. A german shephard likes beef cubes while a bloodhound is known to prefer chicken. It is advisable to observe your dog's reactions to the food. Based on your observations, you can tweak the homemade dog food recipe accordingly.
